A Guide to: Culebra Beach Villas
Check-in is after 4:00PM
Check-out is before 11:00AM
Culebra Beach Villas is nestled within a beautiful natural reserve, surrounded by protected land and nature.
- What You’re Booking:
Private residence (not a hotel). No front desk, daily housekeeping, room service, or hotel amenities.
Privately Owned Villa:
You are renting a privately owned unit, so we kindly ask that you do not remove bath towels, kitchen utensils, or any other items from the villa. It can be difficult to replace lost or damaged items, as most of them must be sourced from mainland Puerto Rico or shipped from the U.S.
This Is Not a Hotel:
While we strive to provide you with all the essentials for a comfortable stay, please keep in mind that this is a private residence, not a hotel. As Culebra is a remote and unspoiled island, access to household items is limited, and it often takes extra steps to bring supplies here. Certain items you may be accustomed to having at home may not be readily available. We recommend planning ahead and bringing any specific items you may need to ensure a smooth and comfortable stay.
- Self-sufficient stay:
We stock thoughtful essentials, but island logistics mean certain items may be limited or substituted. If a particular luxury is a must, please confirm before booking.
Please note that we do not provide certain items such as shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, iron, kitchen towels, paper towels, cooking oils, spices, aprons, insect repellent, first aid kits, additional cleaning products, or a power generator.
- INTERNET / WIFI:
Due to remote location, WiFi can be disrupted occasionally due to faulty weather or else.
- About Culebra, PR (Important)
Pristine and undeveloped. Culebra is a virgin island surrounded by natural reserves and lush nature, think beaches, reefs, and stars, not resort nightlife.
Rustic reality. Intermittent power/water/Internet outages can occur (we provide workarounds where possible).
- Tropical setting = wildlife and insects.
Culebra is a lush, protected, tropical island. This is a private residence on a tropical island. Wildlife and insects are part of life here.
Despite professional pest control and thorough cleanings, zero sightings are impossible. You may encounter chickens, roosters, geckos, frogs, iguanas, hermit crabs, birds, and insects such as mosquitoes, no-see-ums (midges), ants, and occasionally palmetto bugs (large roaches common across the tropics), small roaches. They are part of the natural ecosystem, not a sign of poor housekeeping.
What we do:
Regular professional pest control and preventive treatments.
What you can do (prevention checklist):
*Keep doors/windows closed to avoid bugs coming inside. Bugs can still be drawn to indoor lights if doors or windows are left open at night.
*Store food tightly; wipe crumbs; empty trash daily into sealed bins.
*Rinse sand and keep wet gear outside; shake towels before bringing them in.
*Use repellent, especially at dawn/dusk; run A/C or fans to discourage bugs.
*Turn off outdoor lights when not needed (they attract insects).
*Do not feed or handle wildlife. Respect the natural reserve.
Outdoors, you might encounter iguanas, wild deer, horses, dogs and cats.
Supply and services.
Groceries, pharmacy items, and hardware are limited; special brands may not be available on-island.

Check-in instructions will be sent to you on the day of your arrival, once the villa is ready.
If you happen to arrive in Culebra before your check-in time, we kindly ask that you refrain from accessing the unit until you have received the notification, as this ensures the comfort of our current guests and allows our housekeeping team to complete their work uninterrupted.
Early Check-in/Late Check-out:
Requests are based on availability. As Culebra is a small island with a very limited workforce, we appreciate your understanding.
We have a luggage storage room conveniently located next to the front desk, where you are welcome to store your belongings until your unit is ready for check-in. You may also store your luggage after checking out, and our ground staff will be happy to assist you.
Restaurants, Supplies and Stores:
Culebra has no department stores, no shopping centers, and a limited selection of restaurants. If you require any specific products during your stay, please plan accordingly.
Please note that there are no restaurants or convenience stores located within Culebra Beach Villas. The property is nestled within a natural reserve, offering a peaceful and secluded atmosphere.
For dining options, restaurants are located on the town side of the island. The nearest grocery store, Costa del Sol, is approximately 3 miles from the complex, near the airport. Keep in mind that grocery stores in Culebra typically close between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM, and on Sundays, they close at 12:00 noon. (You can find more details in my guidebook.)
There are also food kiosks available at the public area of Flamenco Beach. These are just a short walk along the left side of the beach and generally close by 5:00 PM each day.
Beach Safety:
Please be aware that there is no lifeguard on duty at Culebra Beach Villas or most beaches on the island. Swimming is at your own risk.
Beach Towels:
While housekeeping provides linens and bath towels, please note that Culebra Beach Villas does not supply beach towels due to the delicate nature of our laundry system.
First-Time Visitors to Culebra
If this is your first time visiting Culebra, we recommend doing some research to help you prepare for the island’s unique charm. Culebra is a small, unspoiled island with just a few small stores, limited restaurants, and plenty of nature. You’re about to immerse yourself in the true island lifestyle!
Culebra is not for everyone, and that’s exactly the point.
This tiny island off the east coast of Puerto Rico is wild, untouched, and fiercely itself. It has no big resorts, no chain restaurants, and no desire to be tamed. What it does have is magic: empty beaches, starry skies, turtles, and the kind of peace that modern life forgot.
If you’re coming to Culebra expecting resort amenities, polished streets, or 24/7 service, this may not be the right destination for you. This island doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not.
But if you’re seeking something real… you’re in the right place.
We welcome travelers who are here to feel the island, not just visit it. People who respect nature, embrace simplicity, and understand that “island time” is a real (and beautiful) thing.
Culebra will show you its magic, but only if you slow down and meet it where it is. If that speaks to your soul, we’d be honored to host you.
Island Tips and Reminders:
Size of the Island: Culebra is just 7 miles by 3.5 miles, with a population of fewer than 1,500 residents. Due to the small workforce, please be patient with our wonderful housekeeping team, who will do their best to accommodate your needs.
Store Hours: On Sundays, stores close at noon, so plan accordingly!
Sun Protection & Water Shoes:
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and water shoes, especially if you’re planning to visit beautiful beaches like Tamarindo and Punta Soldado, which have a mix of sand and pebbles.
Bug Repellent:
Culebra is rich in nature, and you may encounter mosquitoes and no-see-ums, especially in the evenings. Be sure to bring bug repellent.
Island Wildlife:
Culebra Beach Villas are located in a natural reserve. Around the property (and across the island), you may see chickens, birds, cats, iguanas, and even white-tailed deer (especially in the evenings). While we regularly fumigate the property, it’s impossible to be completely bug-free. Common insects include bees, mosquitoes, no-see-ums, flies, roaches, and Palmetto Bugs (which are typically not found indoors). We do our best to protect the island’s ecosystem while keeping our space as comfortable as possible.
Harsh Environment Considerations:
Culebra’s environment can be tough on materials, so you may notice that things get rusted or worn out quickly. We do our best to maintain our villas, but we appreciate your understanding in this regard.
We’re looking forward to seeing you soon in paradise!
